Ginevra Held
Born in Australia to an Architect and Art Historian, Ginevra was raised in San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury neighborhood and spent every summer of her childhood in the South of France where her family has a home. She holds an Architecture degree from UC Berkeley.
Drawing inspiration from Classical Art and Architecture, and then fusing those influences with street art, pop art, surrealism, literature, fashion, and fantasy, Ginevra experiments with the juxtaposition of Ancient Art, Renaissance Old Masters, Contemporary Art, and female sensuality and desire. Individual influences include Sofia Coppola, Irving Penn, Guy Bourdain, Artemisia Gentileschi, Sarah Moon, Francesca Woodman, Helmut Newton, Ellen von Unwerth, Sandro Botticelli and Gustav Klimt, to name just a few.
Ginevra has lived in Sydney (where she practiced Architecture), London (where she studied Historic Preservation) and Paris (where she studies life). She returns annually to Europe for inspiration and motivation - visiting old haunts (Florence, Venice and Barcelona) and meeting new challenges (walking parts of the Camino di Santiago de Compostela and walking the entire West Highland Way)
She currently lives in San Francisco, near the Ocean.
